Abstract	Opportunities now exist through European Union programmes to work in education settings beyond the EU in Central and Eastern Europe. This chapter outlines and reviews two or three pieces of work from Oxford trying to use those opportunities and then turns attention to future trends and issues. It mixes without apology individual motives and experiences with general questions, professional and political, since without strong personal commitments people in the field of education would be unlikely to engage in development activities of the kind funded through the European Union.
