Abstract | This article examines the relationships which exist internationally between the contexts, methods and impact upon institutions of external quality assessment in higher education. Drawing on the IMHE project "Quality Assessment Quality Management and the Decision Process", the author argues that debates about quality assessment are frequently debates about power and change in higher education. Case studies of the Danish University in Aalborg, Uppsala University in Sweden and Monash University in Australia indicate the very different kinds of impact which quality assessment can have on institutions.(DIPF/ Abstract übernommen). |
