Abstract	The Refugee Teachers Program (RTP) at the University of Potsdam is designed for teachers who completed their education and first professional years abroad, now live in Germany, and want to return to work as teachers. Since the program's inception in 2015, it has steadily evolved and had a major reform take place in 2021. Now, the program is open not only to refugees, but also to other teachers who have immigrated to Germany. The content of the four-semester study program has been revised and supplemented; in particular, content from the subject studies is now more highly prioritized. It is not easy to obtain accreditation as a teacher in Germany and/or permanent employment as a teacher. Even graduates of the qualification program still face high hurdles, namely the required high language level of C2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and proof of sufficient training in two teaching subjects. Hurdles, such as the lack of language courses leading to the C2 level and the German education system's strict requirement that teachers have a second teachable, are critically discussed and problematized in this article. Despite a massive shortage of teachers, the employment of immigrant teachers is not yet considered an opportunity for "brain gain" in Germany. (DIPF/Orig.).
