Abstract	This work presents the results of an investigation which aimed at elaborating an instrument of analysis of Physics textbooks. This instrument could help the teachers in a practical and systematic way in their activity of selecting books for this discipline. This tool is necessary because of the importance of the role of the teacher as a fundamental element in the process of selection and recommendation of books at the National Program of Didactic Books (PNLD), facing the enlargement that this program has assumed with its expansion and amplification in High School. In order to elaborate this instrument, aspects focused by Aran (1996) were considered in the documents that determine education, in the PNLD guidelines and in the PNLD EM Teacher's Guide. The specific questions were constructed across articles, dissertations and thesis in the research area about Physics Teaching. São apresentados resultados de uma investigação que teve como objetivo elaborar um instrumento de análise de livros didáticos de Física que pudesse auxiliar os professores de forma prática e sistemática na sua atividade de selecionar os livros a serem usados em suas aulas. Este instrumento se torna necessário por conta do fundamental papel que o professor desempenha no processo de seleção e indicação dos livros didáticos no Programa Nacional dos Livros Didáticos (PNLD), em face do crescimento deste Programa com a expansão e ampliação da distribuição de livros também para alunos do Ensino Médio. Na elaboração do instrumento, foram levadas em consideração as orientações presentes nos documentos norteadores do PNLD, no Guia para o professor constante no PNLD EM e alguns aspectos apontados por Aran (1996). As questões específicas do documento foram elaboradas a partir da análise de proposições e resultados, de pesquisas desenvolvidas no campo de investigações em Ensino de Física presentes em artigos, dissertações e teses.
