Abstract | In this chapter, we review the development of curriculum changes in the Czech school system from 1990, after the Velvet Revolution in 1989, to the present. Firstly, in Section 4.0, we summarize the situation before 1990 and then, in Section 4.1, we introduce four relatively distinct periods of curriculum transformation to provide context and a timeline: deconstruction and partial stabilization (1990-1998), reconstruction - outlining the reform (1999-2005), implementation and revision of the reform (2006-2013), and new strategic plans (since 2013). In Section 4.2 we describe the development of the concepts of curriculum policy in the Czech Republic and in Section 4.3 the development of the curriculum. In Section 4.4, we discuss the implementation of reform, and finally, in Section 4.5, we outline the challenges and prospects for further reform. |
