Abstract | Increasing evidence suggests a dramatic surge in trauma in schools and universities because of adverse childhood experiences (ACES) and the COVID-19 pandemic. Student trauma has a direct impact on the student-teacher and peer relationships and the way of bonding in teaching. Teaching is predicated on social and relational bonding and student trauma poses a direct assault on this relationship. Rather than being connected. students are becoming detached from this relationship and way of bonding. Teacher- student relationship is essential for students' social-emotional development and academic engagement and achievement. This article expounds on the critical role educators play in relationship building and helping students move from detachment to connectedness to combat student trauma through an intentional and purposeful process of trauma-informed pedagogy.
