AbstractThe Covid-19 pandemic and the quest for the resumption of sport has demonstrated the challenges of and opportunities for amateur sport in developing countries like the Gambia. This chapter intends to comparatively analyze the influence of sport stakeholders (football and school sports) on government regulations. The quest for resumption in the Gambia lays bare the relationship between sport and politics, and the different treatments accorded to different sports by government institutions. Organizational behavior literature stipulates that personality traits of individuals in leadership positions do overshadow or alters the organization's norms of cooperation with external entities even in Africa (Chatman 1989; Zoogah 2009). It is also imperative to understand the role influential individuals in sport organizations play through the lens of the Covid-19 pandemic and the pursuit for the resumption of sport activities. Using radio interviews, newspaper articles, social media posts and official correspondence, this chapter explores the contributions of a diverse pool of sport stakeholders that negotiated the resumption of sport activities from March 2020 to January 2021. This period covers the beginning, peak and easing of measures during the first wave of Covid-19 in the country. The authenticity of official correspondence obtained through Facebook posts and personal contacts were corroborated by officials of the National Sports Council (NSC) and Secondary School Sports Association. Other correspondences which could not be accessed posed a limitation to the study as the available ones could not divulge conflicts of interests or other positions. The radio, television and newspaper contents of formally established outlets were obtained through the Heads of Sport Departments and the media outlets' online platforms. (Autor).
