Abstract | In 1999 the New South Wales Department of Education and Training (DET) launched the Languages Continuity Initiative (LCI) to promote the development of continuous and sequenced language learning pathways from primary to secondary schooling. In 2001 DET commissioned an external evaluation of the LCI to identify its effectiveness and impact. The article focuses on what has been learned from the implementation and evaluation of the LCI in relation to addressing transition issues in languages education. For the purposes of the article, the term 'transition' is used to refer to the transfer from primary to secondary schooling. (Verlag, adapt.). |
