| Abstract | The paper compares the treatment of one specific communicative function (the expression of concessive relation) in six recent grammar books of German as a foreign language. It shows that the presentation of grammar in these books is deficient because in each of them only a part of the existing means for the realization of this function is commented on (mainly the prototypical ones). Moreover, if alternative means are explained, they are distributed in different chapters so that the access to the information costs extra time and energy. Therefore an alternative presentation of grammar for non-native speakers, i.e., grammar that leads from function to form, is proposed. (Verlag). |
