Abstract | The development of sports performance classes revolutionized a strength and conditioning approach to physical education. Efficiently using short 50-minute class times with a highly organized structure and objectives for teaching a "strength movement" on 3 class days and speed and agility drills on the other 2 days, a course was created. The resulting sports performance program would impact both student-athletes as well as provide needed fitness components for other students. Positive results were observed in both fitness testing scores and athletic accomplishments. Such a program, with its simplicity and effective teaching by a strength and conditioning professional, reflected a new direction in physical education curriculums and enhanced the importance of strength and conditioning programs in high schools.
