Abstract	The presented article discusses the history of physical education association called Orel in Bohemia before the WWI. The beginnings of the Orel movement are dated to 1890s, when the first catholic physical education department in Prague was founded. Orel departments or unions and their exercises, courses or public performances began to spread widely at the beginning of the 20th century, especially in northeastern Bohemia, where this development was coordinated by J. Polák. In 1910 the Orel country union for Czech Kingdom was founded, which was meant to organize for example the 1st country festival of Orel in Bohemia. Nevertheless, the promising development of Orel in Bohemia was stopped by WWI. (Autor). Predkládaná stat pojednává o historii telocvicného spolku Orel v Cechách v období pred první svetovou válkou. Pocátky orelského hnutí v Cechách sahají az do 90. let 19. století, kdy byl zalozen první katolický telocvicný odbor v Praze. Orelské odbory ci jednoty a jejich cvicení, kurzy ci verejná vystoupení se vsak zacaly výrazneji rozsirovat az na pocátku 20. století, a to predevsím v severovýchodních Cechách, kde se staral o tento rozvoj J. Polák. V roce 1910 jiz vznikl Zemský svaz Orla pro Království ceské, v rámci kterého mel být napr. v roce 1914 zorganizován I. zemský slet Orla v Cechách. Slibný pocátecní rozvoj Orla v Cechách vsak zastavila první svetová válka. (Autor).
