Abstract	Contrary to popular belief, lecturers who teach their subjects in English do not solely need to be proficient users of English. The English-medium instruction (EMI) classroom is characterised by a high degree of diversity of the student body and entails a variety of language, academic and intercultural challenges for which lecturers need to develop specific communicative skills. This chapter exemplarily depicts three such skill sets (communicating lesson structure, encouraging student interaction and awareness-based contextualisation) and five different training formats through which lecturers can acquire these skills. Insights from EMI training offers at the University of Freiburg show that the range of training formats is not only beneficial for addressing different learning style preferences among lecturers, but also for dealing with the scarcity of time and occasional scepticism of lecturers. The chapter concludes with suggestions for future directions for EMI training such as the integration of new target groups or topics, or the alignment with extant training certificates or other tools of (teaching) quality management.
