Abstract	The aim of the study is to investigate the regional disparities of European human capital (HC), i.e. the stock of social and professional skills of the population in working age. It describes the current situation and makes an ex-post analysis of the changes between 2000 and 2007, as well as a prognosis (ex-ante analysis) for the evolution till 2022. The study focuses on Member States (MS), groups of MS (see the table) and regions (NUTS II level). It provides an empirical contribution to the on-going discussion about the realisation of the objectives of EU's structural policies as well as the Lisbon objectives. Its features and recommendations are set up with regard to the concept of knowledge-based society and economy. (DIPF/Orig.).
