Abstract | One goal for physical educators is to make their lessons and activities enjoyable; leading to lifelong learning. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of music on fourth grade students' enjoyment in two activities during physical education class. Research is coming forward to suggest that music can benefit a student's physical education experience. For this study 102 fourth grade students were surveyed and interviewed after one lesson with music and another lesson with no music playing. When stratified by gender, both genders enjoyed PE when music was playing more than when music was not playing (27.6 to 10.3 (p(0.0l) for males, and 20.5 to 4.5 (p(0.01) for females. The odds of enjoying PE was 5.87 times more when music was playing (p(O.OI); with no significant difference observed by gender. Findings indicate students enjoy having music playing during their lessons. From student interviews, elementary-aged students felt the lessons with music were more enjoyable; while allowing for more perceived exertion during class activities. (Autor). |
