Abstract	Die Frage des Verhältnisses von Erziehungswissenschaft (als Theorie der Erziehung und Bildung) und Bildungsforschung (insbesondere als quantitativ ausgerichtete Sozialforschung) wird im Beitrag beleuchtet. Der Autor stellt ihren strukturell disparaten Charakter heraus, sieht allerdings den tieferen Grund ihrer weitverbreiteten wechselseitigen Nichtbeachtung darin, dass sowohl erziehungswissenschaftliche Theorie als auch empirische Bildungsforschung ohne "metaphysische" Setzungen nicht auskämen, was erstere in eine vordergründige Rede von "Konstrukten" fliehen und letztere, in ihrem "nach-metaphysischen" Selbstverständnis irritiert, auf Distanz zu einer theoretischen Einbettung gehen ließe. Kritisiert wird der - auch bildungspolitisch forcierte - Wunsch im Fach nach unmittelbarer praktischer Nützlichkeit und Wirksamkeit, was zu "Kompetenznostalgie" und (weiterer) Schwächung wirklichen wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnisinteresses geführt habe. In this contribution, it is assumed that the field of educational research and the field of pedagogical theory (and practice) have only little in common, but that the mutual indifference of the two realms for each other ("two solitudes") is not merely lamentable. Rather, it would seem problematic if this double solitude - which perhaps might simply be accepted - were one-sidedly terminated by force. Educational policies which attempt to change, improve, control and steer the practices of schools and teaching have not helped to improve the relationship between educational research and educational theory (and practice) during the last two decades. Current educational research may be described as not being guided by educational theory, as not evaluating theory-based assumptions, but as implicitly taking itself to be a tool of educational administration and policy. The wish for usefulness and effectivity educational scientists have can be interpreted as "skills nostalgia'', which has replaced the practice of inquiry and which further weakens the practice of educational theory.
