(DIPF/Orig.). Do basic dimensions of instructional quality exist? The paper empirically tests the model of basic dimensions of instructional quality by Klieme et al. (2001, 2009) in Accountancy. The model assumes positive effects of the three dimensions cognitive activation, classroom management and social support on motivational and academic student outcomes via characteristics of student learning activities such as depth of processing, time on task and intrinsic motivation. These assumptions are tested on a sample of 659 upper secondary students of 24 classes from vocational education in Austria by means of multilevel structure equation modeling. The analysis shows that the model is basically confirmed by the data although the assumptions with regard to cognitive activation are not proven in all analyses. The discussion of the results points at the challenge of offering cognitive activating instructions/lessons in Accounting. (DIPF/Orig.). |
