Abstract | A comprehensive film education can enable to deal competently with TV series: they can learn how to analyse this popular format, how to discuss it critically within economic structures, and how to reflect on their own viewing experience. The article argues that, and demonstrates how, these aims can be achieved via the use of fan fiction in English lessons at upper-secondary or university level. The article is divided into three chapters. The first part connects research results from the areas of literacy, cultural and gender studies on fan fiction with learning goals that aim at film education and gender awareness. In chapter two, different approaches to TV series via fan fiction are developed from this connection. Chapter three outlines how selected ideas from chapter two can be realised in specific tasks alongside the vampire series "True Blood". (Verlag). |
