Abstract | The article discusses and enhances recent conceptualizations and trends in teaching film in the foreign language classroom in Germany. Against the backdrop of the results of the Göttingen Film Conference (2014), this contribution tries to give a detailed answer to what film literacy (Filmkompetenz) is and how sub-areas of it can be shaped. At the same time, it is assumed that a consistently task-oriented approach (competence tasks) can support the development of film literacy and, finally, the overlap between learning with films (rather language-oriented) and learning about films (rather media- and culture-oriented). The article consists of two parts aimed at, firstly, discussing the theoretical foundation for a closely linked competence- and task-orientation approach and, secondly, developing a corresponding competence task-model that connects the two principles. Using the example of a short episodic film by Jim Jarmusch, "Night on Earth" (1991), these assumptions will be discussed conceptionally and their implementation will be outlined. (Verlag, adapt.). |
