AbstractToday's high achievements in dance sport step up the demands to the skill level of dancers. In this regard, there is a need for qualified professionals-ballroom dance teachers trained on a qualitatively new level, because in higher education the result of the learning process consists in the formed professionally important personal qualities of student, which determine his professional competency and skills. The paper contains the study of the problem of professional training of ballroom dance teachers and design features of educational activity on the basis of personality-centered approach. The need to address this problem is caused by the increased requirements to the skill level of dancing partners and the need to train skilled professionals at a qualitatively new level, conditioning the professional competency and skills of the teacher. New approaches to teaching, advanced educational technologies of practice-based learning, where the ideas of self-education, self-training and creative thinking are leading are needed to improve the competency of future ballroom dance teachers. This kind of training involves treating the future teacher as a unique individual, so certain favorable conditions need to be created for development, self-determination and self-fulfilment via higher education. Such training should be done in the framework of the personality-centered approach that represents the essence of the modern educational concept and involves the creation of new content and methods of teaching. The paper describes the experimental work, which involves the introduction of a special course for students specializing in "sports ballroom dance". The main ideas of the special course, that serve the basis for the conducted research, are stipulated that best reflect the personality-centered approach. In addition, performance parameters of learning special disciplines are defined. Performance score based on the analysis of various parameters is among the important indicators of the degree of assimilation of educational material by students. In conclusion, the need for designing activity of subjects of the educational process is noted based on the example of the special course "Teaching skills in dance sport". Verf.-Referat.
