Abstract | In this qualitative study of young girls in England, the author finds that being identified as "good at sport" shapes identities in ways that have major effects on subsequent sports participation. Since "ability" in sport is associated with particular masculinities, young girls are marginalized in these activities with important consequences for subsequent participation. (geändert). |
