Abstract | Investigated regional differences regarding stereotypes for different immigrant groups between linguistic regions. 186 college students (Swiss or long-term residents) in the German-speaking part of Switzerland and 216 similar students in the French-speaking part completed German or French versions of a questionnaire measuring the perceived warmth, competence, competition, and status of 9 different immigrant groups within the country. Results showed that in the German-speaking region, locals perceived German immigrants as more competitive and thus, less warm. In the French-speaking region, locals perceived French immigrants as more competitive and less warm. It is concluded that immigrants with strong integration potential may be particularly disliked because they are regarded as direct competitors. (ZPID). |
