Abstract | Cambodia has arrived at a turning point in its history. The Khmer Rouge Tribunal, a joint effort between Cambodia's judiciary and the United Nations to investigate and try senior Khmer Rouge leaders, is inviting unprecedented reflection and dialogue on civic education and citizenship. The first textbook to give a detailed account of the Cambodian genocide from 1975 to 1979 has been authorized as a text for the secondary school history curriculum. Organizations such as the Documentation Center of Cambodia (DC-CAM), with international support, have relentlessly pursued the cause of genocide education and fact-finding in the last decade, only recently finding success at the national level. |
