Abstract	Textbooks are important tools of teaching and learning process in education system. There are some important criteria in preparing textbooks. Especially visual materials which should be paid attention in the preparation process of textbooks are important. Visual materials of a qualified textbook should also have the following criteria which are as follows: harmony between text and visual materials, clarity and catching attention of students. The purpose of this thesis is to determine perceptions of history teachers about visual materials of ninth grade history textbooks. The research carried out experienced history teachers who teach history in the city center of Trabzon and on the coast of the province of Trabzon. The purposive sampling was used in the research to choose history teachers. A qualitative approach was used in the study and two data collection tools which are an open-ended questionnaire and a semi-structured interview to gather data. 49 history teachers participated open-ended questionnaire and semi-structured interviews carried out with 8 teachers. In the light of the data, it seems that the great majority of history teachers do not know how to use visual materials in history textbooks and think that visual materials in the ninth grade history textbooks do not explain texts properly. Furthermore, they also stated that some visual materials in the ninth grade history textbook are not clear and understandable.
