| Abstract | The paper is devoted to the problems and perspectives of Perm national research polytechnic university, celebrating its 60th anniversary. Perm polytechnic institute started working and training young mining engineers 60 years ago. The department of physical culture is one of the first and corporate departments in the early years of the institute. This department, having been established in 1953 and later renamed Perm national research polytechnic university, is one of the oldest and leading ones of the institute. In the academic years 2006-2011 12 innovation suggestions on physical culture have been introduced into the educational process and certified as intellectual products. The university is a regular winner of sports contests of the Perm territory. The life of the university students is versatile too. Students spend their free time after classes developing intellectual and physical abilities. The department of physical culture of PNRPU in collaboration with the sports club "Politekhnik" carries out numerous health and fitness and mass sports activities in the home university that is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. 500 masters of sport (22 of them - world class athletes) have been trained in the university by now. Many athletes are quite successful in their career after finishing sports performances. During the last years the health forming competence has been the principal one for all students and employees of the department of physical education and the university sports club "Politekhnik".
