Abstract | In this chapter, the author reflects on the lEA's presence in and impact on South African education and describe some of the major findings regarding student achievement over the past nearly two decades. It is within the lEA's environment that the author had the honour of first meeting Prof. Dr. Wilfried Bos professionally and getting to know and appreciate his work whilst collaborating on some of the most significant international comparative studies of student achievement ever organized internationally. First the author will present an overview of Africa's participation in IEA studies, and thereafter she will discuss some of the major findings emerging from these studies in South Africa. Finally, some conclusions and reflections are presented. (DIPF/Orig.). |
