Abstract	The book shows how vital it is to ensure that all young people have the skills they need to prosper. As the Report reveals, however, across the world there is a lost generation of 200 million young people who are leaving school without the skills they need. Many living in urban poverty or in remote rural communities, and young women in particular, are unemployed or working for low pay. They need to be given a second chance to achieve their potential. The publication describes how governments can give young people a better start in life so that they can greet the world of work with confidence. It also identifies the current status of funding for achieving the Education for All goals, outlining the roles that governments, donors and the private sector can play in raising new resources and using them more effectively. The Report monitors the six Education for All goals across more than 200 countries and territories. It shows that progress is stalling just when increased urgency should be fuelling a final push towards the 2015 deadline for meeting the goals. The evidence-based analysis in the Education for All Global Monitoring Report is an indispensable tool for education policy-makers, development specialists, researchers, the media and everyone interested in tapping education's power to build a more prosperous and more equitable world.
