Abstract | This chapter provides an outline of the CROSSNET project history and explains how CROSSNET intervened in the praxis of innovative projects in several European countries. The authors present CROSSNET as an example of how schools and teachers respond to national mandates for reform. They ask how the national projects can make use of a common theoretical framework derived from activity theory by examining the national case studies that are presented in section 2 of this book. The authors conclude that the case studies make it plain that while the conflicting world of teachers and researchers are not "two solitudes", there is much that needs to be learned by each if school reform is to progress. The emphasis in the CROSSNET approach promoting dialogue amongst stakeholders - based on an equitable awareness of and respect for differences of community purpose - is encouraging. The fruits of this starting point can be seen in the following projects. (DIPF/Orig.). |
