Abstract | In November 2008 the European Commission approved and published the official "EU Physical Activity Guidelines". The guidelines recommend specific physical activity standards for the EU population, but do not provide any specific methodological prescriptions for those 80 - 85 % of the EU population, who lead sedentary lifestyle and who are expected to make the transition from the state of physical inactivity to the recommended EU physical activity standards. There are numerous scientific reports worldwide about the health risks from implementation of physical activity on individuals with a minimum level of physical fitness. However, there are no research studies and no scientific publications, which would offer a specific methodological prescription for a safe transition from a state of physical inactivity to the recommended standards of physical activity in the EU. The authors suggest these studies be carried out by the researchers at the National Sports Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria. Verf.-Referat. |
