AbstractThe article inquires into the attitude of first-year VGTU students to physical education lessons at senior high school. The cohort of this study involved 606 students aged 19-20 (girls n = 326, and boys n = 280) enrolled at VGTU in September 2009. It represented about 25 per cent of the total number of first-year students. The method of a questionnaire-based written survey was applied. The findings showed insufficient contribution of physical education classes into the development of 9-12 formers at schools of Lithuania. This accounts for school leavers' insufficient motivation, lack of relevant knowledge and skills for further development of physical education at a higher level of their studies. This particular circumstance affects the educational process of physical education at a higher school. Respondents stated that at schools of Lithuania physical education lessons conducted to 9-12 formers are fairly often out of conformity with the basic principles of pedagogy, hygiene, and physiology. This interferes with the achievement of the main goal of physical education at school - to develop a need for a healthy life style and physical activity. The majority of respondents think that a physical education teacher at school fails to impart sufficient knowledge to pupils or develop skills necessary for their independent physical training. For the purpose of healthy and physically able society, having in mind the current insufficiency of physical education development at a secondary school, it is vital to introduce an obligatory subject of physical education into the curricula of Lithuanian higher schools. The findings of research prove that further inquiry into students' physical education is needed at VGTU. It is necessary to explore and search for the ways how to foster efficiently physical self-development and how to form the skills of a healthy lifestyle at academic physical training classes by applying adequate organisational and methodological solutions and evaluation criteria to the lecturing and training practice. Straipsnyje nagrinejamas studentu, istojusiu i VGTU pirma kursa, poziuris i kuno kulturos pamokas vyresnese mokyklos klasese. Tiriamaja imti sudare 19-20 metu 606 studentai (326 merginos ir 280 vaikinu), istoje i VGTU pirma kursa 2009 m. rugsejo men., tai yra apie 25 % visu pirmo kurso studentu. Taikytas anketines apklausos rastu metodas. Tyrimas atskleide nepakankama kuno kulturos indeli i Lietuvos mokyklu 9-12 klasiu mokiniu ugdyma. Del sios priezasties jaunimas, baiges mokyklas, aukstesneje studiju pakopoje yra nepakankamai motyvuotas, neturi pakankamai ziniu ir igudziu toliau uzsiimineti kuno kultura. Lietuvos mokyklu 9-12 klasese kuno kulturos pamokos gana daznai merginoms ir vaikinams vyksta kartu, nesilaikant pedagoginiu ir fiziologiniu reikalavimu, per pamoka mokiniu skaicius gerokai virsija higienos normas, o tai daro neigiama itaka jaunimo kuno kulturos pletrai. Tiktai pusei apklaustu merginu ir trecdaliui vaikinu mokytojas pamokas metodiskai taisyklingai vede nuo pradzios iki pabaigos. Gana daznai per kuno kulturos pamokas mokiniai sedejo ant suoliuko ar uzsiiminejo pasaliniais darbais. Kuno kulturos vertinimo sistema neskatina mokiniu tobulintis, neskatina ju saviugdos, reikalaujama tiktai formalaus lankomumo ir kontroliniu normatyvu ivykdymo. Daugiau kaip 40 % apklaustuju teige, kad kuno kulturos disciplina vidurineje mokykloje neisugde sveikos gyvensenos ir fizinio aktyvumo poreikio. Daugiau kaip puses apklaustuju nuomone, kuno kulturos mokytojas neismoke ju savarankiskai atlikti rytines mankstos, treniruotis, nesuteike pakankamai metodiskai taisyklingo sportavimo ziniu ir igudziu. Del nepakankamo kuno kulturos ugdymo vidurineje mokykloje Lietuvos aukstosiose mokyklose butina privaloma kuno kultura, tai padetu formuoti pilnaverte asmenybe ir ugdyti kvalifikuotus specialistus.
