| Abstract | In his article the author defines the term "myth" and analyses whether there are myths in foreign language research. The analysis covers the period from the Critical Age Hypothesis through Reflective Language Learning to Multilingualism. Subsequently, the topics of Vocabularly Learning, the New Media, Group Work and Standards are investigated. After an in-depth analysis of why such myths originated and continue to exist, the focus of the paper shifts to the importance of empirical research and critical thinking in understanding how to deal with the problems arising from FLT myths. Such myths certainly exist; however, they need to be researched more thoroughly and objectively in order to ascertain whether they have ever had any basis in reality. (Verlag, adapt.). |
