Abstract | In a longitudinal study, two groups of kindergarten children were asked to transport and manipulate objects in the role of an undercover agent and inventor. One group attended a conventional kindergarten, the second went to a special kindergarten emphasizing physically creative endeavours in play inside and outdoors. At the beginning, the special kindergarten group showed significantly higher scores in the complexity of solutions, quantitative success and variety of ideas. Six months later, all children had improved their creative motor abilities. The conventional kindergarten group showed such an enormous increase that most tasks were solved at the same high level as by the special kindergarten group. The incentive provided by the experimental setting, especially the "undercover agent" task, seems to have induced an accelerated creative motor development. (DIPF/Orig.). |
