| Abstract | One of the central issues relating to gender equality is the question of the appropriate form of education children should receive at school. School, like the home and the work place, is seen as a central environment (sometimes as a battleground) that not only influences the ways in which men and women ultimately come to perceive themselves as human beings but also determines their success or failure in the field of employment. The presented extract from "The Guardian" discusses the apparent paradox that parents often wish their daughters to go to single-sex schools and their sons to co-educational schools.
