| Abstract | In her contribution, the author argues the case of taking advantage of the common - though discouraged - practice of reading foreign language literature in translated versions, instead of the original. According to her, the open and strategically planned use of translated literary texts could not only enhance students' interest but also give them the opportunity to creatively deal with them in the sense that the awareness of the text being a translation might lead to an enhanced appreciation of the "foreignness" and "otherness" of cultures and languages beyond the boundaries with their own familiar environment.
