Abstract	Every well-rounded ski coach and instructor should have an understanding of the fundamental physical mechanics and biomechanics of the sport. Knowledge of these subjects enables coaches and instructors to understand why certain movement patterns and teaching methods are or are not effective. Moreover, it gives them a basis for adapting existing methods and developing new techniques. Yet, existing approaches to physical mechanics education for coaches and instructors are generally limited to a brief description of Newton's laws of motion, leaving the learners on their own to make deep connections between those laws and skiing. This paper provides an overview of pertinent research that has been done in physics education, innovative and practical techniques that have been derived from it, and examples of their successful application to teaching the physical mechanics and biomechanics of skiing to coaches and instructors.
