Abstract | "This papers aims to decipher the European Union's actions and strategy, as well as their impact on civil society's development, and the promotion of democracy regarding Algeria. Concretely, this study evaluates, first of all, the contribution and impact of the European Union in the development and the consolidation of the associative sphere in Algeria, as an important segment and actor of civil society. In addition, it aims to understand the importance of the contribution of NGOs of North, which recently settled in Algeria and promote democracy. Thus, it is extremely interesting to focus on the following question: To what extent do the contribution and the support of the European Union and northern NGOs to civil society in Algeria meet the principal strategy and objectives to which the two parties (the European Union and Algeria) committed when the process of co-operation began: other words, do institutional and non-governmental actors have the capacity and an actual political intention to contribute and help the actors of civil society in Algeria and, consequently, to apply their engagements toward the consolidation of process of democratic transition in Algeria?
