Abstract | This book provides an introduction to the major concepts and issues in the field of educational assessment. It divides conceptually into four areas: "First, Chapters 2-5 cover the basic concepts applicable to all types of assessment: statistical concepts (Chapter 2), reliability (Chapter 3), validity (Chapter 4), and interpretive frameworks (Chapter 6). Second, Chapters 6-10 feature the preparation of teacher-made tests. Topics include planning for assessment (Chapter 6), selected response items (Chapter 7), and the broad array of constructed-response items, including essays, performances and portfolios (Chapter 8). Chapter 9 deals with assessment of attitudes, interests, and creativity, and the use of non-test indicators. Chapter 10 addresses the administration and analysis of classroom tests, with a special section on cheating. Third, Chapters 11-12 cover standardized tests, with the first of these devoted to achievement tests and the second devoted to other types of standardized tests that are typically encountered in schools. ... Fourth, Chapters 13-15 cover what the author refers to as "special applications". ... The specific topics are grading (Chapter 13), legal issues (Chapter 14), and evaluating one's own teaching (Chapter 15). (DIPF/Orig.). |
