Abstract | Interest and learning motivation are the focus of the authors' contribution. Their research was particularly concerned with parental involvement and behaviour in homework situations (in connection with school factors) and the effects on the motivation and on the self-regulated learning strategies of their children. The results of a longitudinal study document that emotional support by the parents and an encouragement of the child's self-initiated learning activities influence the development of the child's learning motivation. The findings of this study have provided the basis for the development of specific parent and teacher training courses that were also implemented and evaluated in the course of this project.
