Abstract | The contribution ... focuses on learning processes at all girls' schools in Bavaria. The authors investigated whether an exclusively female learning environment fosters the performance of girls in mathematics and in science subjects. Although, the results are based on a rather limited sample, they indicate that, in single-sex schools, gender loses its relevance as an important factor for socialisation and that subject-specific requirements gain significance. The study found that single-sex schools had a positive effect on girls' self-efficacy expectation, their interest, and their tendency to achieve better results in physics. (DIPF/Orig.). |
