Abstract | The theoretical concept "All-Day-Education" is a proposal to think and organise education for young people in its unity of cognitive training and identity-building. On this background the article is about an institutional form which combines and interlaces formal and non-formal settings, using the core elements "lessons" and "youth work", while keeping their specific institutional characters in cooperation. In terms of social theory the text deals with the question of participation and qualification in a democratic-capitalistic society and the tasks, functions and gaps of state schools, private lessons and civic clubs or societies.
