Abstract | This contribution analyses how specialist, social, methodological and personal competencies can be structured and diagnosed by using the example of students enrolled in programmes for the teaching profession. For this purpose, competency is defined and a hypothetical competency structuring model is presented. Subsequently, different methods to diagnose competency are described, which is followed by the examination of an empirically gained competency model. The study is based on data of 891 students of the teaching profession. Findings prove that the competency appraisal sheet is highly reliable and that students can be classified empirically into three competency groups of high, medium and low competency attribution. A structural equation analysis shows that the hypothetical competency network is replicable only with students of high competency attribution. (DIPF/Orig.). |
