Abstract | The purposes of this book include educating the reader about the different ways in which constructs of interest for [teachers] in schools can be measured and the ways to ensure that [they] do the best job possible in designing their own classroom assessments. [The authors] provide detailed information on a variety of assessments used by other professionals in schools, such as school psychologists, so the reader can interact with these other professionals more intelligently and use the results of the many assessments that occur in schools to do a better job with the students. Not only is the classroom assessment covered in detail, but the use of various standardized tests is also covered. The regular or general education classroom is emphasized, but special applications of the evaluation and measurement processes to students with disabilities are also noted and explained. Whenever possible, [the authors] have tried to illustrate the principles taught through application to everyday problems in the schools. Through an integrated approach to presentation and explanation of principles of tests and measurement with an emphasis on applications to classroom issues, they hope to have prepared the reader for the changing face of assessment and evaluation in the schools. The fundamental principles taught may change little, but actual practice in the schools is sure to change. (DIPF/Orig.). |
