Abstract | This compilation of case studies on educational information systems was developed in a Master's course in informatics and digital media at the University of Bremen, Germany. Additionally, two current pieces of research from the Institute of Information Management at the University of Bremen were added. During the last decade, knowledge management used in the world of business has also found application in the education sector. [...] One important subgroup for knowledge management is data-driven decision-making aimed at raising student achievement. With international studies like TIMMS, PISA or PIRLS, as well as national or even regional test systems and self-evaluation, data becomes widely available. Increasingly, the exploration of how data can inform instructional decisions for school improvement is a main topic of educational policy, and building Management Information Systems (MIS) is a central concern for many administrators. The assumption is that these systems can support the decision-making process and play an important role for technological support or knowledge management in schools. (DIPF/orig.). |
