Abstract	Der Sammelband behandelt das Thema Unternehmertum unter verschiedenen Aspekten aus einer regionalen Perspektive. Unter anderem werden regionale Einflüsse auf die Gründung von Unternehmen, der Erfolg und die Beschäftigungseffekte neuer Unternehmen sowie die Einflüsse von Sozialkapital und Netzwerkstrukturen analysiert. Die Beiträge belegen die große Bedeutung regionaler Faktoren für die Entwicklung von Unternehmensgründungen. Das Sammelwerk behandelt drei Themenkomplexe: 1. regionale Faktoren unternehmerischen Verhaltens und der Politik zur Gründungsförderung; 2. Beschäftigungseffekte neu gegründeter Unternehmen; 3. Entwicklung innovativer Wirtschaftszweige. Die Untersuchung enthält quantitative Daten. Forschungsmethode: empirisch; Querschnitt; Längsschnitt; Sekundäranalyse. (IAB). "Entrepreneurship in the Region approaches many different aspects of entrepreneurship from a regional perspective. The regional influences on entrepreneurship analyzed entail regional peculiarities and disparities in new business formation processes, the success and the employment effects of new firms, the importance of social capital and of network structures as well as entrepreneurship education and training provided in the regions. The articles in this book provide strong evidence for the importance of regional factors that shape entrepreneurship and new firm formation processes. It is shown that regional differences of start-up rates and entrepreneurial attitudes are not at all elusive but tend to be rather persistent and prevail over longer periods of time. The evidence clearly suggests that the regional level can be an appropriate starting point for entrepreneurship policy and that research on the issue may considerably benefit from properly accounting for the spatial dimension. The articles in this book cover three major issues. The first set of questions concerns the effect of regional characteristics on the entrepreneurial attitudes, behavior, and activities of the inhabitant population. What makes a region 'entrepreneurial,' and how could policy stimulate regional entrepreneurship? Such questions are examined for the regional population as a whole (chapter 2), for particular subgroups such as (potential) women entrepreneurs (chapter 3) and for students at universities (chapter 12). The second domain of the book addresses the employment effects of newly established businesses in quantity as well as the quality of the jobs generated by the start-ups (chapters 4, 5, 6, and 7). A third group of papers puts emphasis on the development of selected innovative industries within particular regional economic systems (chapters 8, 9, and 10)."
