Abstract	Good holistic development is a necessary basis for youth elite sport. It is becoming increasing important to provide the opportunity for athletes to grow and develop in all areas, and educational institutions now exist so athletes can combine academic and athletic excellence (Brettschneider & Klimek, 1998; Bundesvorstand Leistungssport, 1999; Rost et al., 2001). A current analysis of the successful sport nations reveals that either an integrative or cooperative model is used to link junior elite sport and education (Rost, 2002). In the integrative model, the school day is planned to adapt to training and competition demands. Classes and training both take place in one building or Complex (e.g. Skigymnasium Stams, for alpine and nordic sports). In the cooperative model, individual partners are responsible for the various specific components that combine to form the scholastic, vocational and sport education of the young athletes (sport high schools, available for many sports). In Austria, schools that focus on ski sport are an essential part of this system. The International School for Ski Athletes in Stams, Tyrol is internationally known. About 90% of the women & 80% of the men who are ÖSV (Austrian Ski Federation) ski team members come from ski high schools; from those about 60-70% are from the Skigymnasium Stams. This paper presents two cornerstones of the long-term project at Stams. One is sport science support in the form of physiological testing and consulting; the other is physiotherapeutic work involving testing, injury prevention programs, and on site rehabilitation.
