Abstract	In this study, it is assumed that not only school achievement influences self-esteem of students, but also variables related to body image. These variables are the satisfaction with the body, weight-related teasing experiences, frequency and results of comparisons with media contents, and the Body-Mass-Index. In order to test relationship of variables, path analysis with LISREL was conducted. Data from 220 students at the age from 12 to 16 years were gathered and analyzed. Results suggest that a significant amount of self-esteem variance can be explained by variables related to body image; all variables have a direct and an indirect effect on self-esteem. Path models are different for girls and boys indicating a self-destructive mechanism for girls and self-protective mechanism for boys.
