Abstract | In this context, "Parenthood and Continuing Education," does not refer to the customary prenatal classes. Rather, it denotes scientifically confirmed evidence of gender-related changes in educational behaviour after becoming a parent. Traditionally, fathers' participation in continuing education tends to increase enormously, while mothers' participation generally decreases considerably. Given the fact that family obligations often stymie women's professional careers, continuing education could be a factor in preventing this devaluation of womens' professional qualifications. In the framework of an empirical longitudinal study, the processes and turning points are documented and discussed. (DIPF/Orig.). |
