Some students say two is better than one and so choose a degree programme in which they study at home and abroad and end up with two degrees - the German one and the foreign one. A survey of companies carried out by the Cologne Institute for Business Research (IW Köln) confirmed that such graduates enjoy better prospects in the job market. The survey results were published in Berlin in July, at a conference jointy organised by the DAAD, the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) and the Franco-German University (DFH). The survey shows that holders of double degrees are not only more likely to be taken on than graduates with a single degree, but that they can also reckon with higher salaries and better promotion prospects. Reason enough to expand th programme at Germany's universities. Around 200 of these integrated, binational double-degree programmes are already offered, of which 117 are run by the DFH. The DAAD has provided funding for around 20 of them so far. (HoF/text adopted). |
