Abstract | The article is essentially a case study of a very small rural school in the South Island of New Zealand and its planned curriculum to help preserve and affirm the values of the local community. The Patearoa School, a small school in a relatively small country with a concomitant small education system, can serve as a model for maintaining and affirming rural values to a number of international public-education systems, including those in developing countries.
