Abstract | This article sets out to study the relationship between inspectors and inspectees, in the primary school, from the point of view of female teachers inspected by a corps of mostly male inspectors. Through the analysis of thee non-directive interviews, the article makes a point in showing how this position of hierarchy creates psychoemotional phenomenons greatly overflowing its functional boundaries. The female teachers speak of it in an irrational way, connecting it with the feeling they have of a very infantilizing relationship. They call forth the inspector as a phantasmatic, persecuting and agonizing figure. His sentence, carried out by a grade appears as an almost divine verdict. In the steps of Gérard Mendel's approach of authority, we hypothesize that this figure of the inspector, all-knowing and all-powerful, leads back, in the case of these female teachers, to very regressive outlines, and may be seen, in the light of post-freudian works, as the phantasmatic representation of an Oedipian father, behind which hides a very archaic maternal figure: giver of life and death, and creating a feeling of extreme subjection, aggressiveness, guilt and fear of being abandoned.
