Abstract | The article discusses the relation between neurobiological hypotheses and findings on language processing and language acquisition. The correlation between language and communication is shown from a biological point of view and discussed in the light of current findings in cognitive neuroscience and experimental neurolinguistics. In particular, the role of EEG coherance analysis, which supports a non-localistic view on parallel subprocesses of certain frequency bands within given cell assemblies and large-scale synchronisation are emphasized. Based on EEG coherence findings on concrete and abstract noun processing, the multimodal embedding of language not only in the traditional so-called "language area" is shown. Furthermore, some findings on neurolinguistic research on L1 and L2 acquisition are presented. The necessity for a stronger cooperation in future research between this field of experimental neurolinguistics and applied linguistics is shown. (Verlag, adapt.). |
